INDUSTRIAL COGENERATION

industrial gas cogeneration plant   cogeneration plant in an industrial estate
Apart from sugar, palm oil, rice and wood industries, several other industries use cogeneration, especially where there is steam demand in addition to electricity. Where natural gas pipeline is available at reasonable price, industries are going for natural gas cogeneration. Some industries are using coal fired cogeneration plant. Waste gas and black liquor are also used in industrial cogeneration plants.

In general, the overall efficiency of cogeneration plant is higher than separate power generation and steam generation systems. However, careful analysis is needed to decide on power plant or cogeneration plant based on several factors including annual hours of steam requirement.

Modern efficient cogeneration concept is also successfully used in industrial estates. One such example is the 514 MWe hybrid cogeneration plant installed in Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate and Eastern Industrial Estate, Thailand, which supplies around 200 tph steam to various industries. The plant is in operation since 1999 and uses natural gas and imported coal.
